We will have daily homework Monday through Thursday which could total 40 to 60 minutes, with reading or related assignments for 20 to 30 of those minutes. Math practice problems and spelling will be assigned, however, quite often I give students time to start their homework in class. Students could have weekend homework if they get behind in their studies or have long term assignments. Spelling tests will be every Friday. Students will have a pretest on Monday so they will know what words they need to study.
Students are given planners and are required to write their homework assignments in them daily. Parents are asked to initial these planners daily. Their initials signify that they have seen the finished homework that was assigned. Please help your child by providing a quiet, organized place for them to do their homework. Then encourage them to put all homework and textbooks by the door so they do not forget it in the morning. Daily assignments are normally due the very next day. After students have had practice in getting homework turned in (normally two or three weeks after school starts) they will need to fill out a late work letter for late assignments. This is my attempt to make 4th graders more responsible for themselves and also to alert parents. These letters are not “The end of the world!” and will be shredded at the end of every semester.
