PLEASE CHECK OUT THE PHOTOS ON EACH CLASS PAGE OF STUDENTS ENGAGED IN VARIOUS ACTIVITIES LEARNING AND HAVING FUN DOING IT.

Math: Algebra 1a -

This class will cover the first half of a regular Algebra 1 course. Students will learn about variables, exponents, inequalities, orders of operation, graphing, problem solving and simple statistics. We will also cover the distributive, the associative and the commutative properties. We will work toward making connections between the math we learn and real life uses of math.

Life Science: Zoology, AKA: Albatross to Zalophus...

What is an animal? What do sponges and snakes have in common? This is a survey course in zoology, or the biology of animals, with an emphasis on Marine Biology. Students will learn about, and meet some invertebrates “up close and personal”; animals such as sponges, corals, crabs, and sea stars. The course will also study how scientists classify life. We will compare Fish, Reptiles, Amphibians and Birds to see what they have in common and how they differ. This course will include field trips, projects, dissections, class discussions, lab work and selected videos that illustrate marine ecosystems and animals.

High School Physics -

Physics is the most basis of all sciences. It is about the nature of motion, forces, energy, matter, heat, sound, light, and the composition of atoms. In this course, students will be exploring the various topics of physics through readings, discussions, demonstrations, projects, and labs.

Science & Art Elective: Micro - World 101

Have you ever looked through a microscope? Sand glitters like diamonds, and plankton looks like some kind of alien life form. Students in this class will learn how to use dissecting, and compound microscopes. The class will learn to make slides, and use stains. We will examine sand, rocks, fish scales, insects, protozoa, plankton, and anything else we can think up. Students will keep simple sketch books/journals of their observations.

Adventure Friday: - One fish, two fish, parrot fish, mu fish

We will snorkel through coral reefs and learn about fish. We will also learn to identify invertebrates, and some algae. Students will observe fish behavior, and the interactions between the many members of the coral reef community. We will also visit the tide pools and their inhabitants. Students will keep daily journals of observations. Classes will meet at the beach and spent several hours literally and figuratively immersed in the reef.
